Lake District - Walk on the Far Eastern Fells around Hartsop (Wainwright Book Two)
Start: Brotherswater Inn, foot of Kirkstone Pass (NY 403 118), 10 am (Breakfasts served from 8am - 9.30am)
Car parking is available at pub is £2.50 per day.
Location: Brotherswater Inn is located on the A592 (Kirkstone Pass road), next to Sykeside Camp site.
Leave M6 @ Junction 36 (South Lakes), follow A591 to Windermere. Through Windermere, at (very) small roundabout, turn right to follow the A592 through Troutbeck, past the pub at the top of the Kirkstone Pass, then descend towards Patterdale. The Brotherswater Inn is on your left.
Route: From Brotherswater Inn, follow path to Hartsop Village , then climb steadily on good path to Hayeswater Reservoir. Continue over grass climbing to The Knott (2423’). Then over rough grass to the summit of Rest Dodd (2283’). (May see the Bannerdale Red Deer herd on the eastern slopes).
Descend over grass towards Satura Crag (Wainwright baggers can make slight detour to Brock Crags (1842’) if they want) then follow clear path to Angle Tarn. (nice place for lunch). Short rise on clear path to Angletarn Pikes (1857’), then follow path onwards to Boredale Hause. Descend to Hartsop Village , then return along outward route to Brotherswater Inn.
Distance: Approx 9 miles
Time: Approx 5½ hours
Height Gain: Approx 2370 feet
