Sunday 3rd March 2013 - Barden Bridge

Start time: 10:00hrs
Meet at Barden Bridge (map reference SE052574) just off the B6160, where there is free parking.

Directions: head towards Skipton (either A59 or M65 off the M6).
Continue travelling east past Skipton on the A59 for a few miles until a small roundabout is signed left (north) for Bolton Abbey and the B6160.
Barden Bridge is about 4 miles along the B6160.

Starting at Barden Bridge, just north of Skipton, we walk alongside a stretch of the River Wharfe.

Then on to Bolton Abbey and across the Wharfe (stepping stones are an option for those with good balance, but there is a perfectly acceptable bridge as an alternative !).

We then head out to the hidden dell & waterfalls of the Valley of Desolation.

This is followed by a walk to the top of Simon's Seat (485m), from where (if the weather is OK) we will have excellent views of Wharfedale to the north.

Distance about 16k; good paths on the whole and the climb up to Simon's Seat is relatively easy & steady.

Then it's downhill all the way (where have you heard that before !) back to Barden Bridge.

There are options to extend the walk if we made good time, have the energy and the weather is being kind to us ...

Please let me know in good time whether you can come along.
Hope to see many of you there.

Cheers,
 Tony
