4th February 2023 - Anglezarke reservoir

The distance is approximately 9 miles and consists of a pleasant walk around Anglezarke reservoir and then an ascent onto the moor working our way towards Belmont road. We take a detour prior to reaching the road to accommodate a shorter route.

Our starting point is Anglezarke car park ( which is free ). “ What 3 words” address is guitars.napkins.blip

To get to the venue you need to take the M61 heading towards Bolton and Horwich. Come off the motorway at junction 6 and follow the roundabout onto the A6027 road past Bolton Wanderers football station. Stay on the A6027 until you see the Beehive pub directly in front of you ( across from a roundabout). Turn left and drive through Horwich ( watch out for the roadworks and speed cameras).

You come to a small roundabout with directions to Rivington on the right. Ignore and drive straight on onto the Bolton Road and past a sign for Adlington. Keep going for another mile or so until you come to traffic lights with the Elephant and Castle pub on your right. Turn right here and drive straight on for another half mile or so. At the top of the road there is another pub at the junction. Bear right here and proceed for 200 yards and then turn left as per the sign pointing to Anglezarke. Follow the road and note the Yew Tree Inn on your right. Keep on the main road and you drive over the dam wall with the road bearing left. After a few hundred yards the road bears right and goes uphill. Ignore this and drive straight on noting a metal gate on your left. Drive up a short road ( uphill ) and the car park is in front of you.

The walk is quite muddy so please be prepared. Unfortunately no cafe on the route so bring your flasks.

We can drop in at the Yew Tree pub at the conclusion of the walk if time allows.

Meet up at 10.00 am Anglezarke car park  “ What 3 words” address is guitars.napkins.blip
