Title: The Aran Ridge from Llanuwchllyn.
The distance is 10 miles with 3315 feet of ascent and is graded as moderate.
Start time will be 10:00am from the small free car park beside the Afon Twrch in the village of Llanuwchllyn at the southern end of Lake Bala (Grid Reference SH879297). If the car park itself is full (unlikely) there is additional free roadside parking nearby.
From the start the route joins the lower slopes of the Aran Ridge and climbs steadily on clear paths. As you climb the views of the mountains of northern Snowdonia, including Snowdon itself, begin to improve (weather permitting of course). The path eventually follows the main Aran ridge itself where the height gain becomes more rapid.
The first summit reached will be Aran Benllyn after which the route continues over Erw y Ddafad du, the lowest peak of the trio, before finally reaching the summit of Aran Fawddwy. This summit has a fine airy balcony and splendid views.
The descent follows the ascent in reverse with excellent views from a different perspective.
For post walk refreshments there is a pub in the village of Llanuwchllyn itself and multiple pubs and cafes in Bala.
If you are planning to join the walk please contact either, Karen McPoland, Paul Crompton or myself.
Hope to see you there,
Brian.
