The Roaches in the Staffordshire Peak District
An easy 9 mile circular walk along the gritstone ridge of the “The Roaches” with weird rock formations and, weather permitting, panoramic views of the Cheshire plain and Staffordshire moorland. After the ridge we walk through tracts of beech and oak forest. We will visit Lud’s Church, a miniature gorge that inspired a 14th century tale, and Doxey Pool whose peaty depths are said contain a mermaid who lures unwary walkers to a watery grave!
Meet: 10:00 am in Roaches Gate car park, Ref: 006618
