Sunday 3rd January - The Roaches

The Roaches in the Staffordshire Peak District
An easy 9 mile circular walk along the gentle gritstone ridge of the “The Roaches” with weird rock formations and, weather permitting, panoramic views of the Cheshire plain and Staffordshire moorland. After the ridge, we walk through tracts of beech and oak forest visiting Lud’s Church, a miniature gorge that inspired a 14th century tale, and Doxey Pool whose peaty depths are said contain a mermaid who lures unwary walkers to a watery grave! And, if time and weather permit a chance to walk up the “Gilbrator Rock” of Staffordshire.

Meet:  10:00 am in the Roaches free car parking in designated areas along the side of the road Car Park Ref: 004621.

How to get there: Leave the A53 and pass through the village of Upper Hulme to reach the car parking  which is approx. one mile NW of the village.

This is the December walk we cancelled because of forecast poor weather. A good decision as the winds did exceed 50mph.

Please contact us if you wish to join the walk
