Car park at the end of a tarmaced road about 3 miles West of Tal y Bont (narrow road adjacent to school - DO NOT take Llanbedr y Cennin road)
This used to be the quiet option but is now more popular with birders, plane enthusiasts and walkers, so please car share if possible.(No facilities)
Can we please meet at 9.30
Cwm Eigiau was the site of a disaster in 1923 when the dam breached and the inundation destroyed the aluminium works and same cottages in Dolgarrog. 16 people died.
There have also been several aircraft lost in the Cwm including a Bristol Blenheim which failed to clear Crayg Yr Ysfa in 1940, parts are spread around at the bottom of the cliff.
This is a boggy area!
We will begin the walk on a decent pathfrom the car park which leads behind the Craig Eigiau ridge. We will head eventually straight for Craig Eigiau. Heading NW we will pick up a path to Foel Grach. Turning south along the ridge we will encounter Carnedd Llewelyn, Pen yr Helgi Du, and finally that slippery little number Pen Llithrig - y- Wrach.
Wonderful views of Tryfan and The Glyders, The Carneddau, Llyn Eigiau and Llyn Cowlyd.
From here it is an easy but rather boggy descent back through the dam to the car park.
Please let Karen or Gill know if you intend to walk. Looking forward to seeing you.
