Stocks Reservoir lies in the Forest of Bowland AONB, best accessed by taking the A59 to Sawley and then following minor roads passing to the west of Bolton by Bowland.
The reservoir was opened in 1932, flooding the village of Stocks-in-Bowland, and feeds water to Blackpool and the Fylde coast.
For the most part we will follow the circular walk around the reservoir (~8 miles), but if weather and feet allow we will digress to take in some of the landscape to the north where the River Hodder acts as catchment for the reservoir.
