Saturday 1st June 2019 - Sedbergh

We shall return to the Sedbergh area for June’s walk, which will involve an ascent of Whernside from the delightful village of Dent. This is a repeat of the walk we did in September 2007, but I doubt that people will remember.

Details are as follows:

Date / time of walk:      Saturday 1st June; 10am start
Start location:               Pay & display car park in the centre of Dent village (£4.50 charge)
Walk distance:              About 11 miles on a mixture of paths, tracks and grassy hillside
Height gain:                  About 600 metres

Route description:      We head south-east through the village towards the Dales Way, then out onto the Craven Way, an old packhorse route between Dent and Ingleton. We climb slowly up to and turn right at the Boot of the Wold (the Wold is the limestone shelf that we will be standing on). The route then passes close to the Whernside tarns and eventually brings us to the summit of Whernside itself.

The return route takes us down the western flank of Whernside to the road. We turn right and, after a short distance, leave this road to cross open countryside to return to Dent and a well-earned drink.

Please let me know whether you can come along, through the WhatsApp group, a message to 07455318388 or email to tonyjb27[at]icloud.com.
