The Club Walk, Sunday 5th December, starts at Garstang on the western fringe of the Forrest of Bowland.
The route from the car park leads directly onto good paths on the Wyre Way along side the river Wyre. Later we cross the river and head into flat countryside. We will pass Grizedale reservoir towards Grizedale Bridge passing through nice wooded areas before we turn to take in Nicky Nook. We will have already gained part of the height gain at this point. Whilst looking for a walk I saw Nicky Nook described as a 'modest hill'..215m ... it should hopefully provide lovely views of the fells in the Forrest of Bowland and to the west the Fylde coast.
We drop down on refurbished steps and soon stop at the Apple Store cafe near Scorton for the mandatory refreshments.
There are two ways back to the starting point to cater for poor weather or daylight.
There is a mixture of well made paths, tracks and quiet lanes and some pavements.
There were just two fields with sheep, otherwise the dogs should be fine and able to find some muddy puddles to play.
There is a good sized local pub, the Crown, 100m from the car park for the end of walk refreshments. Coffee/tea and good selection of beer available.
Look forward to see you.
Brian
