Starting at 1000.
The walk will start from the village of Rowen in North Wales (grid ref 758719).
The first part is steeply uphill on a road from the village to the youth hostel.
After that height gain is gradual before a green path up to the summit of Tal-y-fan at 610m.
We cross the summit ridge and drop down to an old quarry from which it is a short way to the oldest church in Wales, marked by Garnedd-wen on the OS map. From here it's an easy path back to Rowen.
About 8 miles.
John Tranter led a walk connecting this church with Tal y Fan in 1998 and left pictures in his albums. It has taken me many years to find this church and recreate his walk.
For those who didn't know John. He was the driver behind the creation of the Dista Mountaineering Club back in 1986. We will remember him.
There is car parking in a lay-by on entering the village. Car share if you can as its not so big.
See you there Dave
